At Timberwood Church we practice open communion.  If you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ you are welcome to join us in this ordinance.  Depending on your faith tradition, you may call this celebration: the Eucharist, the Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion.  Regardless of the name, we acknowledge what Jesus did.  We know that  the night before he died, he gathered his disciples together and gave them a tangible way to remember what he was about to do for them.  Through the ordinary elements of wine and bread, Jesus told his disciples to remember his body, given for them, and his blood shed for them.  Later in the 1^st century, St Paul would write,  

"For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,  ²⁴ and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."  ²⁵ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."  ²⁶ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.  ²⁷ Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.  ²⁸ A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.” (1 cor 11:23-28)

And so we, with in the command of Jesus to remember his death and Paul’s admonition to examine oneself, we invite those who know Jesus as Savior and Lord to celebrate this most extravagant of gifts:  Jesus.
